I had billions of dollars, I'd donate substantial amount of that wealth to the U.N. under the condition that they phase in Esperanto for all official U.N. business.

Re: Paying the U.N. to adopt Esperanto
Sun, August 20, 2006 - 1:11 PMAn interesting question is what, for some particular amount of money, one could maximally achieve and how. Some people argue that governments of all kinds are becoming less influential in comparison with individuals and private organizations. If so, perhaps any official adoption of Esperanto by the U.N. that one could buy for $X billion would have a smaller impact on the ultimate fate of Esperanto than the amount of private adoption that one could buy with the same amount of money. To me the most interesting aspect of this question is that it is fundamentally important in designing the strategies of the world's Esperanto promotion organizations, and yet as far as I know none of them conducts or sponsors any studies of this question. -

Re: Paying the U.N. to adopt Esperanto
Mon, August 28, 2006 - 3:14 PMOne thing you mention that strikes a chord with me is strategy. While it is nice to be a dreamer and "hope" someday Esperanto will be formally adopted, there should be SOME sort of plan. Some formal stragegy to finding and PUSHING (not hoping) for the prgamatic implementation and adoption of the language.
Even if there is no centralized plan, and there are multiple groups making a push, I think this could still be at leat more successful.
